Louis Van Gaal happy with current striking options

Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has revealed he is happy with the club’s current striking options, but has not ruled out a potential surprise signing.

The Red Devils have signed four players so far this summer, a defender, two midfielders and a winger, but the majority of United fans want to see another striker added to the squad.

After Radamel Falcao‘s loan expired and Robin Van Persie left to join Fenerbahce, United have been left with just three strikers at the club.

Wayne Rooney, James Wilson and the returning Javier Hernandez are the only three attackers at the club, and despite the lack of numbers, Van Gaal has admitted he’s happy with the options he has.

Van Gaal Happy with Options

Following Friday night’s friendly win over Club America, he said: “I am not worried about depth of forwards. We still have Rooney. He can play in the striker’s position. Last year the media said he had to play there. I listen to the media.

“We also have [Javier] Hernandez, [James] Wilson and maybe a surprise, you never know. It is a process.”

Rooney Plans

Van Gaal is planning on using Rooney as the lone-striker, with new signing Memphis Depay playing the number-10 role just behind the England international.

The last time United used Rooney as a lone-striker, he netted 34 goals back in the 2009/2010 season.

However, since then he’s been used as a midfielder and an attacking-midfielder, scoring 14 and 17 goals respectively.
