Manchester United are monitoring the progress of Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic and might make an attempt in January to bring the player to England.

Signing a defender has been Jose Mourinho’s utmost priority and he is likely to invest to shoring up his backline. Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling have been the preferred pair in the heart of the United defence but they are far from impressive this term.

The Red Devils were heavily linked with a move for Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld but chief executive Ed Woodward’s inability has left the manager frustrated and the result is quite horrific as United leaked 21 goals in 12 Premier League games keeping just one clean sheet in the proceedings.

Milenkovic just turned 21 and has all the attributes to be a top defender in near future. In this tender age, he has already been compared with United legend Nemanja Vidic and could be Lindelof’s partner in crime in near future.

Fiorentina rejected a ÂŁ36m offer for the player and would be looking to recoup at least ÂŁ50m to cut ties with the player. Predominantly a centre back Milenkovic has mostly played on the right side of the defence this season and also has two goals in his tally.
