Napoli to let star left-back to join Manchester United

Napoli are preparing to let left-back Faouzi Ghoulam to join Manchester United.

Manchester United have reportedly met Ghoulam’s £53m release clause and will be joining the Red Devils as soon as Napoli secure their replacement Alejandro Grimaldo from Benfica.

Portuguese publication Record state that Napoli are closing in on Grimaldo as Ghoulam’s replacement for £26.6m and it’s believed this signing will seal the deal for Ghoulam to join United.

Ghoulam, 26, tore his cruciate knee ligament in November last year and is currently unable to play. But he has made 11 appearances in the Serie A and has scored two goals and made three assists. And it seems the imjury has not put off United and Jose Mourinho to buy the talented left-back.

United have has problems in that department with Ashley Young now serving a three match ban and is not viewed as a long-term option, while England international Luke Shaw continues to be linked with a move away from the club.

Ghoulam signed a new long-term contract with Napoli at the start of December last year to extend his current contract to the summer of 2020. But it’s believed Napoli will sell once the release clause is met and have signed their replacement.
