Manchester United’s decision to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their interim manager has come for a price as the Red Devils had to shell out in the region of £1.8m to acquire the service of the former forward.

The amount splashed out to Norwegian club Molde as the club have lent their manager to United for the remainder of the season. United parted way with Jose Mourinho on Tuesday and appointed the Molde manager as their interim boss.

Solskjaer will oversee the senior team till the club fill up the vacant role. The 45 year old will lead the side on Saturday when United travel to Cardiff City which happens to be his old hunting ground.

The former Red Devil did have a coaching stint at the club but that was with the Reserves side. The new manager led his Norwegian club to a second place finish this season and recently put pen to paper to fresh terms extending his stay till 2021.

United hierarchy is likely to monitor Solskjaer’s work very closely and if they found him good for the long run he could be handed a brand new deal. But for that the Red Devils need to shell out another £7.2m as compensation to Molde.
