Manchester United have reportedly placed a £54m bid for Juventus winger, Douglas Costa.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been appointed as caretaker boss of the Red Devils but will have no final say in the transfer. Ed Woodward and the rest of the board have consulted the 45-year-old about the move.

Jose Mourinho was already targeting Costa during his tenure as United boss but he has been done away with. The former’s sacking has not derailed the club’s interest in the Brazilian winger, however.

Costa is spending his second season with the Serie A champions after being brought out permanently from Bayern Munich last summer for £36m. He finished his debut season in Italy with 6 goals and 14 assists in 47 games. This term, he has played 16 games across all competitions but is yet to register a goal or an assist.

Costa is certainly an eye-catching figure on the pitch with his ridiculous bursts of pace and his sublime skills with the ball. He might not come off strong across the stat sheet but he does have a lot of offensive qualities.

He could be an immediate starter for United on the right wing position and would a lot of strength to the final third lineup. His creative and crossing abilities could certainly help Romelu Lukaku’s scoring slump.
