Evans could be available on a cut price deal

Manchester United are expected to strengthen their squad this summer in order to challenge for the title next season. Jose Mourinho has prioritized adding defensive reinforcements and also claimed that he will only sign defenders in the transfer window.

They are already keeping tabs on many defenders but could make a surprising move for one of their former defender as he could be available on a cut price deal this summer.

Manchester United are weighing up the merits of re-signing Jonny Evans from West Bromwich Albion on a cut-price deal, The Sun reports. He was sold to West Brom by Louis Van Gaal for just £6 million in 2015. He came through the ranks of United’s academy and made 198 appearances over 9 years before leaving.

The 30 year old though established himself as one of the best defenders in the league and his stock rose up. Manchester City, Arsenal and Leicester city all made bids for him but West Brom rejected all the offers as they were determined to keep hold of him.

But the club may be forced to part ways with the defender as they are in danger of relegation to the championship. Evans has a clause in his contract that states he can leave for £3 million if the club is relegated.

Despite having the second best defensive record in the league behind Manchester Cit, Mourinho is still not happy with his back-line and thinks Evans would be a good addition.
