Reports in Spain are suggesting that Manchester United are equipped with both the funds and incentive to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford, but require help from former manager Sir Alex Ferguson to persuade the Portuguese to re-sign with the Red Devils. Ronaldo has been fulsome in his praise for Ferguson, and has thanked the Scot on many occasions for helping him with his development as a youngster at United.

He said: “He [Sir Alex Ferguson] helped me a lot when I was just 18 in Manchester and I want to say I respect him and thank him so much for everything he did in my career.

The 29-year-old has repeatedly stated his desire to return to Manchester one day, which could prove to be decisive at the end of the season when Ronaldo is set to decide on his future.

He said: “Everyone knows that – I have said it many times. Manchester is in my heart. I left many good friends there, the supporters are amazing and I wish I can come back one day.”

It is believed that an offer in the region of ÂŁ60 million as well as ÂŁ300,000 per/week wages will be enough to lure Ronaldo into a second stint as a United player.
