Edinson Cavani and Nicolas Otamendi next on the list

Manchester United have now turned their attentions to a new centre-back and a new striker after capturing two midfielders on Monday.

The Red Devils announced the signing of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin yesterday for a combined fee of £39.4million and they’ve now turned their attentions to the back and the front of their team.

Louis Van Gaal splashed £150million on his squad last season and has already spent big this summer signing four new faces, but will now try and sign a new centre-back and a new striker.

Edinson Cavani and Nicolas Otamendi are the two targets in mind for Van Gaal as he continues to make drastic changes to the Manchester United squad.

Striker Hunt

With Robin Van Persie and Radamel Falcao both leaving the club, and Javier Hernanzez expected to follow suit, Van Gaal is in dire need of a new striker, and Cavani is the reported target.

The Paris Saint-Germain striker has struggled in France due to his new position down the left-wing, and he has been linked with a move away from Paris over the past few seasons.

However, United would have to cough up big money in order to persuade Laurent Blanc to sell the Uruguayan, with fears that Zlatan Ibrahimovic could also be on his way out soon.

It’s believed PSG want around £50million for the star-man.

United’s other alternative options are believed to be Thomas Muller, Harry Kane or Karim Benzema.

Defensive Reinforcements

As for defenders, United are eyeing one of two La Liga stars. Nicolas Otamendi and Sergio Ramos are the two identified targets, but after the latter was just named club captain at Real Madrid, it looks like the Valencia star is the more realistic option.

According to reports, Valencia want around £25m for the centre-back.

Van Gaal was left relying on youth players at the back last season due to injuries, and he’s keen to avoid the same issue this time around.
