Mourinho has already outlined his no.1 target for next summer

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is planning a sensational move for Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann next summer, which will eclipse the £89 million spent on Paul Pogba last month.

The Portuguese boss signed just four players this summer, but made arguably the biggest signings and did the best transfer business, and the 53-year-old has already outlined his no.1 target for next season, despite the transfer window having only closed on Wednesday.

It is no secret that the former Chelsea boss was interested in the France international during his time at Stamford Bridge, and Mourinho now wants the Atletico star to make a move to the Premier League next summer when, hopefully, United will be able to offer Champions League football.

Even before Griezmann’s rise to one of the very elite forwards in European football, Mourinho was interested in taking him to west London. But now at Old Trafford, the United boss is willing to pay well in excess of Pogba’s transfer fee this summer, to capture the in-demand French forward.

The Red Devils boss has already approached third parties, to ensure Old Trafford is the Frenchman’s first-choice destination, with it also understood that rivals Manchester City are also after the Euro 2016 star, who helped France to the final this summer.

Griezmann has a contract with Atletico Madrid until 2021, but is well aware that a move away from the Vicente Calderon could be on the cards, with the Spanish outfit renowned as a selling club, if the right offer is put forward.
