The pair have been key to Everton’s success this season
According to the Sunday Express, Manchester United are ready to pay up to £100 million to lure Everton duo Romelu Lukaku and John Stones to Old Trafford.
United boss Louis van Gaal needs to strengthen in January, as he has come under considerable pressure after recent performances and results.
The Red Devils lost 2-1 at Bournemouth on Saturday night, which only added to the disappointment of crashing out of the Champions League in midweek.
And van Gaal needs to spend the club’s money wisely, the Dutchman has used over £250 million of club finances since joining as manager in 2014.
Not for sale!
The major roadblock for United is that Everton chief Roberto Martinez insists that Lukaku and Stones are not for sale, no matter what the price.
However, the hierarchy at the Mancunian club believe £100 million should cover the costs for two of the Toffees’ star players; especially when the 22-year old Lukaku has apparently been valued at £50.7 million
On the other hand, John Stones continues to be linked with some of Europe’s biggest teams and Everton are allegedly lining up replacements for the England international.
Arsenal’s Calum Chambers is rumoured to be the number one target for the Merseyside club should Stones leave.
