Defender has had surgery on his leg
Manchester United have released a formal statement regarding defender Luke Shaw after he suffered a double fracture in last night’s match.
United have revealed that the left-back has had surgery on his leg and will now remain in hospital in Eindhoven until he’s medically cleared to leave.
Shaw suffered the horrific injury following a tackle from Hector Moreno and he is now likely to miss at least a year meaning he won’t be available for the European Championships next summer.
Statement
United wrote on their official Facebook page: “Luke Shaw underwent surgery on his injury on Tuesday night and will remain in hospital in Eindhoven to continue his early recovery.
“Manchester United are grateful for the excellent care he is receiving and would like to thank everyone who has sent messages of support.
“A further update will be provided in due course.”
Manchester United players have all been posting touching statements on their official Facebook pages for Shaw and have wished him a speedy recovery.
It was a bad night for Louis van Gaal as he lost Shaw long-term and also saw his side lose their first Champions League game of the season 2-1 to PSV.
