Manchester United risk losing Evra and Ferdinand

Manchester United are at risk of losing experienced players Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra after opting not to offer them new contracts before appointing a new manager.

Both players’ contracts run out in the summer, as does Ryan Giggs’ interim contract, and it is now understood that no new contracts will be negotiated until United have found Moyes’ successor. United are aware that the delay could cost them the services of the two players.

Giggs, 40, could also choose to retire, leaving United 3 players short of the squad that has failed so dramatically this season. Ferdinand, signed from Leeds in 2002, has stated he would like to continue playing for the club beyond the summer, while Evra, who joined from Monaco in 2006, is expected to attract contract offers after being linked with a move back to Monaco and to Inter Milan.

United won’t have to start from scratch to retain new signings, as Moyes managed to revamp the scouting system before he was sacked, however no deals were already wrapped up before his departure, unlike Sir Alex Ferguson, who signed Wilfried Zaha before he retired, a player Moyes later loaned out.
