Manchester United: timing of sacking was right

Despite heavy criticism from the League Managers’ Association, Manchester United insist that it was the right decision to sack David Moyes at this point in the season.

The club have said that the reason they sacked David Moyes earlier than expected, was because it would have been seen as disrespectful for the club to search for a new manager behind his back, according to the BBC.

It is known that the club were concerned about the dressing room spirit and that Moyes’ team lacked a sense of ‘fight’ which is usually associated with any United team. The board of directors had become restless and had lost confidence in Moyes, especially after disappointing performances against rivals Manchester City and Everton.

Executive vice-chairman, David Woodward, will now lead the search for Moyes’ successor, seeking advice from the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, while club legend Ryan Giggs takes over as interim manager. A whole host of names have been linked to the managerial post at Old Trafford, including Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simone and Holland internation manager Louis Van Gaal.

The club are said to be keen to make an appointment ‘sooner rather than later’.
