Manchester United are ready to make a £19million bid for Real Madrid defender, Raphael Varane, moving ahead of their rivals, Chelsea, who are also keen on the youngster.
The Frenchman, who was dubbed the best young centre-back by Jose Mourinho, is growing frustrated at the Bernabeu due to the lack of game-time, and as reported yesterday, the 21-year-old is starting to feel unsettled.
Varane is behind Sergio Ramos and Pepe in the pecking order at Madrid, but with the latter strongly linked with a move away from Carlo Ancelotti’s side, Varane could still be in the Italian’s plans if he sticks it out until Pepe is sold.
However, United are now ready to turn their interest into a formal bid by lodging a £19m starter-bid for the French centre-back.
Mourinho is hopeful that his past connections with the defender could win him the race, but according to reports in Spain, United are confident that they can push through a deal with the Spanish giants.
