Manchester United to make last ditch attempt at signing Hummels

It seems that Louis Van Gaal is desperate to sign Mats Hummels or Aymeric Laporte before the transfer window shuts on Monday.

Van Gaal is in desperate need of some defensive reinforcements in order to keep his team in a fighting chance on getting back into the Champions league.

It was reported that Manchester United might be inclined to consider a ‘stop-gap’ option to get them through the busy winter period with a move for the likes of Nemanja Vidic but it now seems that this would not be a viable option for Van Gaal.

Hummels and Laporte are the men Van Gaal believes can help get his team back into the Champions League and back to winning ways and he hopes to be able to at least lure one of them to Old Trafford before Monday.

The current clubs of both players have denied reports that they would be allowed to leave but reports claim that Manchester United have offered deals too lucrative for the clubs to turn down

Man United seem unwilling to meet the buy-out clause within Laportes contract because the Frenchman wants the move, so it is felt that Athletic will drop the asking price instead of risking losing the defender to the bench.
