According to the latest reports, David De Gea has drawn closer to signing a new rewarding contract with Manchester United.
While the club has exercised a player option in his current contract to keep him at Old Trafford till the summer of 2020, there is always a threat of foreign interests. The representatives of the player has been in talks with the United officials for weeks now, finalising a deal that will see De Gea earn £400,000-a-week.
Being one of the best players in his position there is no doubt over the player’s actual value to the club. Jose Mourinho was quick to promote the same sentiments as he told the press, “He is a world-class player. He is the best goalkeeper in the world and, if our ambitions are to be a big club, to be a winning club, you need the best goalkeeper in the world – and you need also some other players the best in the world.”
De Gea is nearing up on the 100 clean-sheet mark in the Premier League and has already registered over 330 games for the club. He is almost the uncontested starting player for both club and country, with 38 caps under his name for the Spanish national team.
The 28-year-old has remained consistent in between the sticks, which in turn has led him to win 4 Player Of The Season awards over the last 5 seasons. Real Madrid has clearly let up on their pursuit for De Gea after signing Thibaut Courtois in the summer.
