Will Manchester United be taken over by new investors?

Mystery Chinese investors are rumoured to be launching a £2.51bn bid to gain some shares in Premier League side Manchester United.

As it currently stands Manchester United are currently owned by the Glazer family who maintain 80% of shares.

The family took over in 2005, much to the dismay of many United fans, and quickly got the club into millions of debts, with some estimating around £700million.

However, since then, the owners have managed to clear most of it, but some fans are still not happy.

The family have been controversial since arriving in Manchester United 10 years ago with some fans boycotting and even forming their own club.

A portion of the fans have also started a campaign against the Glazers, known as the ‘Green and Gold’ campaign.

According to the reports, the unknown group have already made contact with members of the Glazer family regarding a potential bid, but it’s not yet been documented how much they want to buy.

In the latest Forbes list, United are worth just over £2bn, but according to reports in China, a group could cough up as much as £2.51bn for a stake.
