Manchester United will not let out of favour pair Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin join Everton in January, fearing that the Toffees have become rivals for a European spot.

The teams are currently level on points in the Premier League table, despite United being dubbed as one of the main title challengers prior to the season starting by many pundits.

United have not played to their best under Jose Mourinho thus far while Everton are doing well under Ronald Koeman and are looking to upset one of the big clubs at the summit of the table this term.

However, the Dutch manager’s efforts to bolster his squad in both attacking and defensive areas in the January transfer window could be limited by the Red Devils, who will not allow Depay and Schneiderlin to make the switch from Old Trafford to Goodison Park, even on loan.

Both players are out of favour at the minute and are not included in Mourinho’s future plans but the Daily Mirror claim that United do not want the wasted duo helping the Toffees beating them to a European spot come May.

Other clubs in the Premier League and abroad have been linked with both players, who only made the transfer to the Theatre of Dreams last summer but have quickly fallen down the pecking order at the club after not performing to their potential.
