Borussia Dortmund skipper Marco Reus praised his team’s performance after their surprise 4-0 drubbing of Atletico Madrid at Dortmund last night.

Axel Witsel gave Borussia Dortmund the lead in the 38th minute before Raphael Guerreiro came off the bench and doubled their lead. In the 83rd minute, teenager Jadon Sancho scored Dortmund’s third just four minutes after replacing Christian Pulisic. Guerreiro gave a fine finishing touch by scoring his second of the match and Dortmund’s fourth. The win is Borussia Dortmund’s 6th successive win across all competitions this season.

Borussia Dortmund are currently at the top of their group with 9 points.

Following the win, Marco Reus praised his team’s performance. He said, “You couldn’t have imagined that. You have to say: a great compliment to the group, because it is not commonplace that you score four goals against Atletico. Incredible, sensational. We suffered a lot, especially in the second half. We hardly had any possession there and you need possession against that Atletico side. We only managed that again after minute 60 or 65, then you could see that we can also play football.

It’s not only the result, but how we played was very convincing. When we had the ball, Atletico defended very deep, especially before the break.”

Borussia Dortmund’s next fixture is a Bundesliga game against Hertha BSC on Saturday. Their next Champions League clash is the return leg against Atletico Madrid on November 6.
