Louis van Gaal angry with defender for not revealing hamstring issue

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is unhappy with defender Marcos Rojo after he didn’t inform the club about his hamstring injury.

The Argentine returned to first-team action on Sunday during United‘s 3-2 away win at Southampton after Luke Shaw suffered a horrific leg-break earlier in the week against PSV Eindhoven.

However, Van Gaal is not happy with the defender after he didn’t reveal the extent of his injury and hasn’t spoken to the Dutchman ahead of tonight’s Capital One Cup tie against Ipswich Town.

Van Gaal on Rojo

The United boss said: “Marcos Rojo is not ready to play. It’s not so nice that we have three defenders injured (Rojo, Luke Shaw and Paddy McNair).

“I thought we were right on time for Rojo because we changed him in the game. He didn’t warn us that he was injured. He has a hamstring injury.”

Van Gaal wants to take the Capital One Cup seriously this year and is warning his side not to take the Championship outfit too lightly following their shock exit at the hands of League One side MK Dons last season.

Van Gaal Rallying Cry

Van Gaal added: “Last year we (United) were already out in the second round. Now we are already in the third round, so we are already further.

“But I think you have to fight for every Cup and that is what we shall do.

“We hope to play very well in this competition, that’s why I want a fresh team and I hope we shall beat Ipswich Town.

“Ipswich is a very good team. I have seen them playing, we have analysed this team, they have very good players and they play like a team.

“I want to win every match and Sunderland is the game after this match. Now I focus on this match we have to play and I have asked the players to do that in the same way because we have to beat Ipswich Town.”
