Everton boss Marco Silva has hailed Gylfi Sigurdsson’s contribution in the 3-0 win over Fulham in the Premier League.

The Icelandic opener was in the thick of things in the second half following an underwhelming first half display. Sigurdsson could have had a hat-trick but his penalty kick struck the bar to make it more complicated for the Toffees.

But the 29 year old made Fulham pay with a beautiful curler from the edge of the box. Cenk Tosun then opened his account as he doubled the advantage for the home side. Sigurdsson then netted his second of the evening to round off a good victory for Silva’s side.

Sigurdsson’s role at the Goodison Park had come under scanner as the former Swansea City playmaker struggled to do justice to his talent. But after his performance against the Cottagers, the player now can breathe a sigh of relief.

Silva said, “He (Sigurdsson) showed fantastic character and personality after he missed the penalty. He works every day to achieve something and I thought the football was fair with him today.”

“I told them we have to do it in a different way. We have to be more aggressive and we have to be more clear about what we are doing.

“We have have to take different decisions and be a little bit more calm when we have the ball, and when we are attacking.

“Of course the three points was the most important thing but the clean sheet was also something we were working on to build confidence as a team

“I’m really happy. I told the boys what my feelings were in the dressing room. It was an important result for us but it was only three points, and now we must start preparing for the next game in the normal way.”
