Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli has extended his stay at the club by putting pen to paper on a new deal. The new contract extends his association till 2021 and the club also do have the option to extend it for a further year.

A new contract was long due for the English international and he has now been rewarded for his significant development at Craven Cottage. The custodian came through the Cottagers academy and has spent his entire career at the club.

He was in the thick of things last season as his trickery in between the sticks was pivotal in earning the promotion from the Championship. Bettinelli looked to have lost his position at the start of the season as he wasn’t even in the matchday squad for the first two games as Slavisa Jokanovic preferred new signing Fabri.

But after that, the keeper has been an ever present in the starting lineup. He said, “It’s something I’ve been wanting for a long time now. I’m really happy, it’s a proud moment for me and my family, and something that I’ve worked towards for a long time.

“Thank you to the owners and everyone at the Club for giving me this opportunity to stay here and continue my career at this fantastic football club.

“The fans are a massive reason for me wanting to stay, I know how much they support me and how much they’re behind me, and it’s fantastic to see that. I know we’ve had a tough start to the new league, but they’ve continued to show their support and I’m pretty sure going into Saturday they’ll be up and ready for the game.”
