Star got £1m for not being sent off

Mario Balotelli has been handed a huge £1million bonus by Liverpool for never getting sent off during his time at the club.

The Daily Mirror are reporting that the crazy clause in his contract was paid out when he left Anfield for Nice in the summer transfer window.

He signed for Liverpool from AC Milan in 2014, in a gamble from Brendan Rodgers that didn’t pay off.

His deal stated: “If during each season of the term of this contract the player is not dismissed from the field of play on three or more occasions for violent conduct, spitting at an opponent or any other person, for using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures and/or for dissent by word or action . . . then on the 30th June at the end of each season he shall receive a bonus payment of £1m.”

Documents released confirm that Balotelli earned a basic salary of £85,000 a week at Liverpool. He was also offered £50,000 per goal once he had scored more than five Premier League or Champions League goals in a season. That clause was never activated.
