Mark Hughes believes Southampton have enough ammunition in their armoury to upset Chelsea when the two side faces in the Premier League.
The Saints are just two points clear of the relegation zone and have registered just one win in their first seven games. Hughes side defeated Everton on penalties to cruise through to the next round of the Carabao Cup and will take their inspiration when they host an in-form Chelsea at St Mary’s.
Chelsea will be hoping to reclaim the top spot although either Liverpool or Manchester City are certain to surge back to the top following their encounter.
Hughes feels the ongoing momentum will help them in getting the better of Maurizio Sarri’s side. “We all think we’re in a good situation in terms of performance
“Clearly if we perform well, ask questions of a very good Chelsea team at home, and ride our luck – then I think we’ll go very very close to beating them.
“We’ll always ask questions of good oppositions because we are a good team. A lot of these guys have played together for a long time so they have an understanding of each other as individuals, team-mates and persons, and that’s important.
“The character we showed at the back end of last year is still very much within the team, and it will sustain us and make sure that we’re successful.”
