Stoke City boss admits he was after controversial striker

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has admitted he was open to signing Emmanuel Adebayor and believes Crystal Palace have made a clever signing.

The Togo international has been without a club since his release from Tottenham Hotspur over the summer, and although he was still being paid by Spurs, he hasn’t kicked a football since.

However, Palace snapped him up on a free transfer earlier in the week, and Hughes has now admitted that he wanted to try and lure him to the Britannia Stadium.

Hughes Wanted Adebayor

“We talked about Ade and his situation but he’s based in London,” said Hughes.

“We knew early on that was where he was likely to end up, so we didn’t pursue it to any great extent other than a conversation. But he’s a good player. When he’s on top of his form he can be unplayable, he’s that good.”
