Australian goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has stated that he believes Chelsea newboy Cesc Fabregas could potentially become just as important a player to the South-West London club as recently departed club legend Frank Lampard was.

Schwarzer, 41, in an intervew with talkSPORT stated that ‘it’s a big shame losing someone like Frank Lampard who has been an unbelievable player in the Premier League. He is a world class player and it is a huge loss for Chelsea considering how long he’s been at the club, but he’s obviously looking for another challenge. With Cesc Fabregas, you’re talking about another world class player replacing (Lampard)’.

Fabregas, 27, a regular starter for the Spanish natonal side, recently completed a ÂŁ27m to Stamford Bridge, where he will link up with another new Spanish signing, Diego Costa of Atletico Madrid. Left back Filipe Luis, deep-lying midfielder Tiago and Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang remain targets for Jose Mourinho, who is looking to fill in the gaps left by the departures of long-serving Ashley Cole and Lampard.
