Martin Skrtel faces FA action

Liverpool defender, Martin Skrtel, is set to be investigated by the FA for appearing to stamp on David De Gea during a feisty affair at Anfield.

The Reds lost 2-1 to their fierce rivals Manchester United thanks to a superb brace from Spaniard, Juan Mata, but the game was full of spicy tackles and feisty incidents.

After a calm first-half, things got heated pretty quickly into the second-half as Steven Gerrard was sent off after just 50-seconds of being on the pitch. The Liverpool man saw straight red for a stamp on Ander Herrera.

With Mario Balotelli and Phil Jones also maybe lucky to stay on the pitch, it appears Skrtel may get into trouble as well for his incident with De Gea right at the end of the game.

After chasing a through ball, Skrtel ran through on goal but was beaten to the ball by the United goalkeeper, but the Slovakian international appeared to stamp on the leg of De Gea after missing out on the ball.

There was a bit of an altercation between the two at the full-time whistle and it’s now been confirmed that the FA are looking into the incident.

After the game, Brendan Rodgers defended his player by saying he was just trying to get the ball.

‘I have seen the Martin Skrtel incident,’ Rodgers said.

‘The ball was played through but it probably looks worse in slow motion.

‘It looks like he is trying to get a nick on the ball, to get a toe on the ball but the ball went into the goalkeepers hand.

‘Martin is not that type of player, he was just a fraction out.’
