FC Porto striker adds fuel to the transfer fire

Jackson Martinez has hailed Arsenal as a ‘great club’ amid the speculation that he could be joining them from FC Porto this Summer.

The Colombian international is leaving Portugal after three years with Porto and is now set to make a decision regarding his future, with Arsenal and AC Milan fighting for his signature.

Battle for Signature

Martinez, who will leave the club for ÂŁ25million, has been strongly linked with both clubs in recent weeks, with the Porto president claiming a move to the San Siro was completed.

However, the striker’s agent dismissed those claims and insisted that no decision had been finalised with any interested club.

Although he dismissed speculation about a move to AC Milan, Martinez’s agent refused to give a name when asked where his client could be playing his football next season.

Both sides will reportedly meet the 28-year-old’s release clause, which is just under ÂŁ25m, so it will then be down to the player to decide which club to join.

In a recent interview, Martinez dropped a big hint that it could be a move to England and London after hailing the Premier League outfit and stating that Thierry Henry is one of his all-time favourite players.

Martinez Praises Arsenal

He said in an interview to A Bola: “I’ve always had two players I’ve admired above all others: (Luis) Ronaldo and Henry. So I’m very happy he made that comment about me.

“Arsenal are a great team, playing in one of the best leagues in the world.

“I’m still waiting to see what the future holds. It’s not known yet but it will be known soon.

“For now I’m fully focused in the Copa America.

“Every player’s dream is to play where they can feel well and enjoy football, and that’s my dream too.

“Whether it’s in England, Italy or Spain, the most important thing is that my family and I both feel well and I can enjoy my football.”

Martinez commented on Henry because of the Frenchman’s comments suggesting that the Porto striker would improve Arsenal.
