Didier Deschamps urges right-back to quit Arsenal

France’s head-coach Didier Deschamps has hinted that Mathieu Debuchy will need to quit Arsenal if he wants a spot in his European Championships squad.

France are hosting the summer competition so Debuchy would love to make the final squad, but with his game-time being very limited at the Emirates Stadium, he could miss out.

Emergence of Bellerin

The Frenchman is second-fiddle to Hector Bellerin, who broke through at the club last season, and Debuchy hasn’t managed to displace him.

However, with Bellerin out injured, the former-Newcastle United player did feature for Arsene Wenger last night, but was on the end of a 5-1 mauling to Bayern Munich.

Speaking about Debuchy, Deschamps hinted that the only chance he has of making the France squad is if he leaves the club in January.

Debuchy Advised to Leave

‘Mathieu Debuchy is in a position where he is playing very little, when he does play, look at yesterday’s result,’ he said.

‘If he has a decision to make in December or January… He hasn’t lost his quality, he’s playing very little.’
