Juventus and several other sides were linked with moves for the midfielder
Nemanja Matic has today confirmed that he did hold talks with Antonio Conte about leaving Chelsea – but decided to stay at the club.
The midfielder has featured in all three games for the Blues so far this season since deciding not to leave Stamford Bridge and he remains a key figure for the Blues as they fight for the Premier League title.
Over the summer, several teams were linked with moves for the Serbian and it looked likely that he could be on his way out, especially when Antonio Conte brought in N’Golo Kante.
Best option was to stay
However, after the two held talks with each other, both player and manager decided that the best option was to keep Matic at the club and not to sell him on.
Matic said about the talks: “I spoke with the club and we both decided that it was best for the club and for me to stay.
“I’m very happy because I’m now here with this team and this club.”
He looks likely to make an appearance for Chelsea again this weekend, as they face Swansea at the Liberty Stadium.
