Matt Le Tissier thinks England need to neutralise Luka Modric in a bid to see out the Croatian challenge in the UEFA Nations League.
The Three Lions are set to face Croatia in a crucial clash at the Wembley stadium on Sunday. Winner of this tie will confirm a berth in next year’s Nation League finals.
It would be an ideal platform for the Three Lions to avenge their semifinal defeat of the World Cup. Kieran Tripper gave his side an early lead but Croatia held their nerve to hit back through Ivan Perisic and Mario Mandzukic as they booked their place in the final.
Modric was awarded the Golden ball for his exemplary performance in the Croatian midfield in the World Cup and Tissier believes the Real Madrid midfielder holds all the key in this game. “They’re a very good team but the obvious thing for me is that lad that stood out at the World Cup, Luke Modric.
“He was head and shoulders above most of the other players if I’m honest. He just sees the game really well, keeps it simple at times.
“He just gets about the pitch, always seems to be in the right place and sees a pass beautifully. He’s always been a footballer that I’ve enjoyed watching since he came to Spurs really.
“If you can try somehow to nullify what he’s got then that gives us a far better chance in the game.”
