Mauricio Pochettino says he couldn’t hold his emotion after Tottenham Hotspur finally opened their stadium as Spurs U18 made a winning start to celebrate the opening of the new venue.

The capacity of the new stadium stands at 62000 but only 30,000 spectators were allowed to witness the historical match. The stadium needs to undergo a number of safety processes and Sunday’s match was one of the firsts.

45,000 people are expected to throng to the new stadium when Inter Milan face a Legends side. Pochettino will guide his team through the tunnel when the North London side host Crystal Palace next month.

Repeated delays saw the club extending their Wembley contract but now it seems they won’t be needing to play at another stadium. J’Neil Bennett became a part of the club’s history as he scored the club’s first goal at this stadium as the U18s crushed Southampton 3-1.

Pochettino who was present in the stands said, “We all feel the same, so excited. I got the same feeling when we left White Hart Lane on the last day, we were crying and now in the first day in the new stadium we feel the same emotion,” Pochettino said, on the pitch at half-time.

“We need to cry because our dream became true.”
