Mauricio Pochettino to be offered bumper new contract

Pochettino was close to quitting after chairman Nicola Cortese walked out last week following a row with Liebherr over the Swiss businesswoman wanting a bigger say in how the club is run.

The Argentinian, who has 17 months left on his contract, worth more than ÂŁ1million a year, has said he will remain in charge until the end of the season before reviewing his options.

But a Saints source said: “The owner wants some stability at the club and the best way of ensuring this is by getting the manager tied into a contract. It would send out a message that despite Nicola leaving, nothing has changed.”

Cortese’s departure sparked fears of a mass exodus, but skipper Adam Lallana said: “The new owner has said nobody is for sale, which is good.”
