Maurizio Sarri Admits He Still Misses Gonzalo Higuain

Maurizio Sarri has revealed his admiration for AC Milan striker Gonzalo Higuain claiming he still misses the player very much.

Higuain joined Milan from Juventus on an initial loan deal in the summer and it can be made permanent in the next summer. Sarri had worked with the player at Napoli and wanted the player to follow his suit to London.

But negotiations fell through and the Argentine international went on to join the Italian giants. The need of a proper centre forward has been felt at the Stamford Bridge as Alvaro Morata has struggled to convert chances while Olivier Giroud has been pretty useful with his holdup skills and link up play up front.

Higuain has been amongst goals this season and Sarri feels he has some undone work with the player. “Whatever response I give will be considered wrong and put words into my mouth.

“All I can say is that I feel Gonzalo left Napoli too soon. If he had stayed for another season, I think we could’ve been in a condition to win. Higuain was a part of the fantastic mechanism we created, we understood each other so well.

“It was perfect synchronicity and the regrets will probably stick with us. I miss Higuain a great deal. I miss him because he’ll keep scoring goals until the day he dies. He is a goal machine, a systematic and automatic jackpot.”
