Maurizio Sarri has backed Eden Hazard to fulfill the false nine role successfully in future matches.
Due to the devoid of goals Sarri has been using Hazard in a more central role to utilise the player’s attacking antics. Hazard was deployed as a false nine in the 2-0win over Manchester City and replicated it quite beautifully in the last match as Chelsea kept themselves in the hunt with a 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Belgian international setup Pedro with a wonderful ball for the first goal and later netted the winner with a delightful finish. The Seagulls pressed hard in the latter half of the game but Chelsea backline remained intact and denied the Brighton attackers from scoring the equaliser.
The Italian coach emphasized the importance of Hazard in that position. “I think that, for us, he could be very important in this position.
“He’s very able to come out and play with his team-mates, very able to create spaces. Now I think that, in that position, he has to improve in attacking the box.”
“I think that he could play better, because his level is very high so I think he could do more, for him and for us, but I think after the two injuries he lost the physical condition.”
