Sarri addressed the need of a sports psychologist in the medical staff

Maurizio Sarri believes that Chelsea are in dire need of a sports psychologist to uplift the morale of the team within the locker room.

Chelsea suffered their first home defeat under Sarri as the Blues went down 1-0 to Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday. The Blues dominated the first half and Eden Hazard hit the post before Jamie Vardy’s goal set the cat amongst the pigeons.

Sarri’s men lost control over the proceedings in the second half as Leicester saw more of the ball. They had numerous to restore parity but Marcos Alonso only managed to hit the inside of the post in injury-time.

The Blues lost further ground on Liverpool at the top of the table as a result of the defeat, leaving Sarri bewildered by his team’s second defeat in their last four games.

“I had a sports psychologist 15 years ago in Italy but it was difficult because the clubs were not ready then. But we can talk about it – why not?” Sarri told the press.

Sarri is considering adding a psychologist to Chelsea’s medical staff to address the mental aspect of the game after being perplexed by their inconsistencies.

“It’s difficult to understand. We have players with long experience,”

“The reason we lost was not our physical condition. On Saturday we were very good for 55 minutes and then two minutes after the goal we were in trouble. So I think there is another reason.”

“We reacted a little shocked and with mental confusion. We had to only keep playing like we did before the goal, there was time to recover.”
