Maurizio Sarri signs deal with Chelsea

According to reports from Sky, Maurizio Sarri has become Chelsea’s new boss and has signed a contract with the club. His assistant at Stamford Bridge will be club legend Gianfranco Zola.

The former Napoli boss had a meeting with Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia which lasted two and a half hours and signed the deal with the club.

There were plenty of speculations that Sarri was close to signing a deal with The Blues with Napoli President Aurelio de Laurentis stating on Wednesday that Sarri was close to signing a deal with Chelsea.

Sarri will take over the managerial duties from Antonio Conte whose sacking was confirmed by the club on their website yesterday. Sarri’s arrival at Chelsea is good new for the club as this would help them sign Jorginho. Additionally, many think that Sarri can persuade Chelsea’s stars like Eden Hazard and Willian to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea would be the 9th club which Maurizio Sarri will manage. This will be the first time that the 59-year old will be managing a club outside Italy. At Napoli, Sarri guided the club to three successive finishes in the top three in the Serie A. He led the club to 97 wins out of 142 matches with a win percentage of 65.99%. He won the Serie A Coach of the Year Award for the 2016-17 season.
