Inter Milan striker snubs English interest

Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool have all been dealt transfer blows after the news that Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi has committed his future to the club.

The Argentine striker has just penned a new deal at the San Siro, which sees him tied down to the club until 2019, ending all speculation surrounding his future.

The 22-year-old had been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League over the Summer after he couldn’t agree on terms for a new deal in Italy.

However, after months of negotiations, he has finally accepted the deal and has committed his future to the club, snubbing all interest from England.

Club Statement

A statement on the Italian side’s website read: “FC Internazionale is pleased to announce that Mauro Icardi has inked a new contract with the club.

“The Argentine striker’s new agreement runs until 30 June 2019.”

Speaking about his new deal, Icardi admitted he was delighted to commit his future to the club and is looking forward to his future under Roberto Mancini.

Player Statement

“Everybody wants to play in Europe, but I’m happy here with Inter,” Icardi told Sky Sport Italia.

“I hope we can keep getting better and the club are working on building an even more competitive squad next season.

“I’ve always said that I want to stay with Inter. My contract renewal’s not so straightforward, but we are working on it and I’m confident. I think there will be more news in the coming week.

“Hopefully we will reach a point where we can sign and all be more relaxed about things. We will sort it all out soon, at the latest after the holidays.”

Icardi finished the Serie A campaign with 22 goals, making him the league’s joint top-goalscorer.
