Kylian Mbappe joined Paris Saint-Germain from Monaco on a initial loan deal with a view to make the transfer permanent last summer. He has been crucial to the Ligue 1 giants domestic dominance this campaign, scoring 21 goals in all competitions.
PSG reclaimed the Ligue 1 title that Monaco won last season. The 19 year old was also inspirational for them and helped the team to win the title before leaving the club.
Unai Emery, who will leave the Ligue 1 giants at the end of the season after two year sting with them has claimed that the France International initially did not prefer a move to Paris. He wanted to leave Ligue 1 and join either Barcelona or Real Madrid.
“When I met his father, and himself, at home, the player wanted to go to Madrid or Barca, and it was the club and I who told him that he had to be in France,” Emery told SFR Sports.
“Historically, this type of French player, who was just 18 years old and was starting to show up, was leaving France, and as a Frenchman, you must be proud to have Mbappe at PSG.
“The French must be happy that he stays in France, because before the players like him, like [Thierry] Henry, went to England or Spain.”
