Mertesacker quits Germany

Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has retired international football with Germany having won the World Cup in the summer and insists ‘The World Cup in Brazil was a golden conclusion’

Mertesacker says the time is right for the you get members of the squad to come through and take over and judging by their under 21 team and the young players who went to Brazil they haven’t got too much to worry about.

The giant Arsenal centre back made 104 appearances for his country spanning 10 years and was always present in the team which always threatened to win major tournaments but never quite achieved it, that is until this summer.

The news follows the retiring of all time World Cup goalscorer Miroslav Klose and captain Philipp Lahm from international duty with Germany, certainly the best way to go out is on top!
