Messi admires Alaba’s versatility
Barcelona are already planning for a busy summer transfer window and they are likely to add Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann in the summer, who has a release clause of €100 million.But Messi has reminded his club coach Ernesto Valverde not to neglect defense this summer.
According to Diario Gol, Lionel Messi has advised Barcelona to sign Bayern Munich star David Alaba to help improve their defence. Barcelona were linked with him in 2016 but a deal never happened. In fact Real Madrid saw an €80 million bid for him turned down that year only. It is believed that he could cost potential buyers over €100 million in the summer.
Alaba has came up through Bayern ranks and has been an integral part of the team since 2011. He can play as left back,centre-back and in a holding midfield role and regarded as the one of the best versatile players in the world, no wonder Messi thinks he would be an excellent addition to the club.
The Austrian defender earlier this month claimed that he could leave Bayern for a new adventure:
“I am aware that I one day will have to make the decision, and I still feel great here,” Alaba told Kurier. “But I can also imagine taking a different path, making the next step or seeking a new challenge.
“But I leave that open for now. I have goals for this season I want to reach. That’s why there is no place for those thoughts right now.”
