Mesut Özil blasts Arsenal

Arsenal’s key player Mesut Ozil has hit out at Arsenal today, saying that they didn’t win the title because they “weren’t a team”- putting his contract talks on hold.

The German midfielder is a strong believer that teamwork and communication holds the key to success in the Premier League- something that Arsenal have been unable to show during the second half of the season.

The Gunners were favourites to win the title back in January, and they looked almost certain to do so- but a run of 10 games with only 4 wins quickly threw any title hopes into doubt, and frustrated fans for yet another season.

Ozil himself also experienced a slump in form, as he missed out narrowly on the assist record during a Premier League season.

When questioned about Arsenal’s performances, he said: “We dropped a lot of points that we should not have dropped against the ‘smaller teams’ and that was the point in the season where we did not work as a team.

“Especially after the Barcelona game we were just not good enough to take a point.”

The 27 year old has also thrown doubt on any contract renewals, as he looks towards the European Championships this summer, as Germany look to win the tournament. Due to this, any talks are on hold.

“I have two years left on my contract and will be in talks with the club. Now I’m concentrating on the Euros in France.” he explained.
