Arsenal have been linked with a mega-money move for Bayern Munich star James Rodriguez but European football expert Andy Brassell believes that the Gunners are highly unlikely to table a bid for the Colombian as long as Mesut Ozil is at the club.
Rodriguez shifted bases to the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich on a two-season loan deal from Real Madrid in 2017. He has an instant hit in the Bundesliga in his debut season but he has struggled for form and fitness this term and reports claim that the Colombian is unsettled at the club.
The European expert was speaking to talkSPORT when host Danny Kelly asked: “Let’s talk about James Rodriguez, [listener] Rylan says Arsenal have already had a £63m bid accepted for James Rodriguez?”
And Brassell then replied, saying: “Well, of course, that would be with Real Madrid, not Bayern because Bayern haven’t completed on him yet.
“I mean it’s frustrating for him because he was such a key part of everything that they did really well last season.
“It’s been rather less the case this season, at least partly due to injury.
“I think Arsenal seems very, very unlikely to me.
“Why would they sign a playmaker on enormous wages when they’ve got a playmaker on enormous wages [Ozil] that they can’t fit in the team at the moment?”
Speaking last month, meanwhile, Rodriguez stressed he would not be cutting his loan spell with Bayern short.
But the Colombian did admit he would examine his options in June.
“My present is with them and I have a contract until June.” he said.
