Mesut Ozil set for shock move to Premier League giants
Mesut Ozil has told Arsenal teammates that he will be leaving the Emirates to join Premier League rivals Manchester United, according to the Daily Mirror.
The 29 year-old is out of contract next summer, and is able to negotiate a free transfer from January onwards if – as expected – he doesn’t renew with the Gunners.
However, reports have suggested that Arsenal will look to cut their losses on him and Alexis Sanchez and cash in on the pair in the winter transfer window, with plenty of teams interested.
The Mirror ran with an exclusive from Ozil today, who has supposedly told teammates that he will move to Old Trafford in the new year.
They say that Arsenal have offered him an extension worth £275,000-a-week, but the player and his representatives want closer to £350,000-a-week to stay.
Should Ozil make the move it would make him hated amongst Arsenal fans, as Robin van Persie discovered when he joined United back in the summer of 2013.
The former Real Madrid man could be followed to the north-west by Alexis Sanchez, who is being courted by Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain amongst others.
Arsenal are already looking at replacements, with AC Milan’s Andre Silva one name that has been mentioned this week. Monaco’s Thomas Lemar is also on the radar.
