Mesut Ozil: ‘Wenger didn’t have to sell the club to me’

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has revealed that manager Arsene Wenger didn’t have to sell the club to him at all to persuade him to join on transfer deadline day and the German star has admitted that he knew the move to The Gunners was the right one for his career.

On transfer deadline day, Arsenal stole the show as they landed Ozil in a whopping ÂŁ42.3million deal, which has see him be the club’s highest ever paid transfer fee and on Thursday, the midfield-man faced the media officially for the first time alongside Wenger.

During the interview, Ozil revealed the reasons behind his move and his expectations of the club, but he also admitted that Wenger didn’t have to sell the club to him at all as he already knows how big Arsenal Football Club are.

“[He didn’t] have to say a whole lot about the Club,” the 24-year-old said. “I know how successful Arsenal have been and what successful players they have had – players like Henry, Fabregas.

“So I know that the step here is the right one for me because many young players came here and got better and became the best players in the world. This is why I wanted to come here.

“I look forward to playing with the whole team. We are one team and we have a goal with the team. We want to go our way together and therefore I look forward to playing with everybody.”
