Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has signed a new contract at the club which will see him stay on at Old Trafford for a further two-and-a-half years.

The two parties have been holding talks for weeks now, but it finally looks like they are ready to announce the deal which will see Carrick stay at the club until 2015.

It is believed that the Englishman, who is currently recovering from injury, wants to end his career at United after enjoying his best season yet last year.

However, the new deal will not see Carrick earn a pay-rise as United’s officials do not want to spend more than ÂŁ3.5million a year, which is what he currently earns.

Speaking last month, Carrick said: ‘I’d love to carry on playing as long as possible at this club.

‘It’s a fantastic club and I’ve had great times here. I feel good at the moment. I’ve just turned 32, so I’ve got a bit of time yet.’
