Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson is confident that the club can achieve a top-four finish this season and has admitted that that is their main goal.

Spurs travel to Manchester this weekend to face Manuel Pellegrini’s Manchester City, and Dawson understands how tough it’s going to be to come away with a result from the Etihad Stadium.

“I think Man City are a top team,” Dawson told Sky Sports News ahead of the Super Sunday clash.

“They won the league two years ago and some of the players they have, they want to win the league. Our aim is to be in the top four. Things don’t change and we are still striving for that.”

Currently Andre Villas-Boas’ men are above City by one spot in the Premier League table, but they are struggling to hit the back of the net so far this season as only Crystal Palace and Sunderland have scored fewer goals.

However, Dawson backs the player to start scoring more frequently sooner rather than later.

He added: “We have got players in that dressing room that will score goals, Jermain [Defoe], Robbie [Soldado], Ade [Adebayor], we have got players who can play in the 10, Christian [Eriksen], Gilfy [Sigurdsson], Lewis [Holtby], players who will score goals and I believe we have top players who will score plenty of goals going forward.”
