Patrick Bamford could be in for a return to Middlesbrough in January – with the Teesside outfit hopeful of securing his signature.

Bamford, who spent a fruitful time at the Riverside last season, where he scored 17 goals as the club made it to the play-off final, is currently on loan at Premier League side, Crystal Palace.

However, the 22-year-old’s spell at the Eagles has yielded just four league appearances for Alan Pardew’s side, having signed an initial season-long loan at Selhurst Park in July.

Currently behind Connor Wickham and Dwight Gayle in the pecking order of Palace’s forwards, Bamford recently admitted that his time at the top-flight club has been that of a “frustrating” one, given his lack of regular first-team action.

The striker has a clause in his current deal at Palace which could see him recalled by Chelsea in the forthcoming transfer window – as Boro prepare to make their move to re-sign him, if he becomes available.

With his playing time seemingly limited in South London, Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka is weighing up a potential return for the Grantham native, should Bamford’s loan deal at Palace be cut short in January.

Middlesbrough currently sit fourth in the Championship table, following last Friday’s 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers.
