Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar is on the verge of renewing his association with the club.

The Slovakian defender has been one of the top defenders in the European circuit and a number of clubs with the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United tried to sign him in the summer.

Skriniar moved to the San Siro last season from Udinese and his excellent performance in the heart of the Nerazzurri backline has caught the attention. He has a contract till 2022 but the club wants to reward him with a bumper new deal to ward off the suitors.

It had been expected the defender would pen to paper to a new contract and reports are claiming a verbal contract has been agreed between the two parties. Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio had a fruitful chat with his representative and an announcement is expected to be made once the player signs on the dotted line.

The 23 year old currently pockets £ 1.7 m a season and is set to gain a substantial rise to his current salary which is believed to be in excess of £3 m. This could be a severe blow to United who are believed to be chasing the player for quite a while.
