Mixed week for England in Champions League

Two wins, one draw and one defeat for the Premier League

Champions League game-week five is done and dusted following last night’s action, and it left the Premier League with a mix of results.

It’s getting to the business end of the Champions League Group Stages, with just one game remaining, and three of the four English clubs are in danger of missing out on the knockout stages.

Here is what happened for the English sides this week.

Tuesday Night

Arsenal 3-0 Dinamo Zagreb

Arsenal kept their Champions League hopes alive with an emphatic win at the Emirates Stadium against Croatian outfit Dinamo Zagreb.

A brace from Alexis Sanchez and a goal from Mesut Ozil gave Arsenal the three points, which puts them third in the group with one game to go.

Luckily for Arsenal, Bayern Munich thrashed Olympiakos in Germany which still gives the Gunners a chance to qualify.

Arsene Wenger’s men travel to Greece on the final day needing to beat Olympiakos by two-clear goals, or by winning while scoring more than three goals.

Maccabi Tel-Aviv 0-4 Chelsea

Chelsea forgot about their Premier League struggles on Tuesday night as they hit four past the Israel side.

Gary Cahill, Willian, Oscar and Kurt Zouma gave the Blues all three points in convincing fashion.

However, with Dynamo Kiev beating FC Porto, the group is now in a interesting position.

To sum it up, if Chelsea get anything from their game against Porto, they qualify for the knockout stage. However, if they lose to Porto, they will be out assuming Kiev beat Maccabi at home.

Not done and dusted for Jose Mourinho just yet in Europe.

Wednesday Night

Juventus 1-0 Manchester City

This game was basically decided who finished top and who finishes second.

Manchester City were already through and Juve beating City puts them through as well to the knockout rounds.

A Mario Mandzukic goal in the first-half gave the Italian side all three points and now it will go to the final game to decide who finishes top and who finishes second.

Manchester United 0-0 PSV Eindhoven

Not sure how this game ended goalless.

United battered PSV during the first-time but just couldn’t score, and in the second-half it looked like PSV were going to get a goal and take all three points.

However, it ended 0-0 and it was a rather poor game in truth.

What does the result mean?

Well it means United will need to beat Wolfsburg away on the final game-week. Tough ask.

So there is the summary of the week in Europe. Three Premier League teams could all crash into the Europa League!
